New Year. New Me.
Ok, so here we are again. We have just walked into a new year, so of course, that means that that we must now blast our “NEW YEAR; NEW ME” mantra. However, if we are going to start the new year off with a clean slate, then it’s only right to be honest. Becoming a new person is challenging, boring and most of the time, FAILS! We begin a new workout routine, change our toxic eating habits, block those draining calls from ringing through our phones, and BLAH, BLAH……BLAH! We give up before we can really see a return. I truly believe that the reason that we fail at becoming a new person, is because we fail at surrendering ALL to Christ, and allowing for Him, to transform us. Being transformed by Christ is a lifelong journey, rather, a quick fix to our temporary boost of a new year high. Becoming a new person is a journey of surrendering ourselves to God’s love and guidance. Here are a few steps that can help you in this process, if you are burnt out by the failed “NEW YEAR; NEW ME” resolutions and guilt that compliments them:
1. Seek a personal relationship with Christ: Start by developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, reading the Bible, and attending church. This will help you understand His teachings and grow closer to Him.
2. Repentance and forgiveness: Recognize your need for forgiveness and repentance for your sins. Confess your sins to God, ask for His forgiveness, and strive to make amends with those you have wronged.
3. Surrender your will to God: Surrender your desires, plans, and control to God. Allow Him to shape and direct your life according to His will. Trust that He knows what is best for you.
4. Renew your mind: Renew your mind by filling it with the truth of God's Word. Meditate on Scripture and allow it to transform your thoughts, attitudes, and actions. Reject worldly influences and align your thinking with the teachings of Christ.
5. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in you: Invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in your life and empower you to live according to God's purposes. Be attentive to His guidance, conviction, and instructions.
6. Engage in spiritual disciplines: Engage in spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, worship, and serving others. These practices help cultivate a deeper relationship with Christ and create space for His transformative work in your life.
7. Surround yourself with a community of believers: Connect with other Christians who can support and encourage you in your journey. Join a local church, participate in small groups, and seek mentorship from mature believers.
Remember, transformation is a lifelong process, and it requires patience, perseverance, and reliance on Christ. Trust in His grace and allow Him to work in and through you to become more like Him, so that you can truly be transformed into a NEW YOU!
”But you have not so learned Christ, if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus: that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:20-24 NKJV
