Relationship Series
Relationships are a part of our lives whether we want them to be or not. As we mature past our youth, many of us find that relationships can be very overrated, overwhelming, or we just may be flat out OVER IT! Have you ever found yourself wondering why God requires for us to be so attached to someone else? Especially, when it seems like every time you step out of your box of comfort to allow someone into your space, the attempt veers to the left real quick. I truly understand your concerns here, but to be honest, relationships were given to us by God, to bless us. Our relationship with Christ, of course, is the foundation to which every other relationship should be built upon. Just think of the beauty that arose from the home of Mary and Joseph; I would like to think that the relationship between the two was pivotal in the upbringing of Jesus, laying a foundation for His ministry, death and resurrection. If Joseph overruled Mary, or if Mary overruled Joseph, this would have greatly interrupted God’s plan, not only for that family, but for the world, as a whole.
According to Newton’s Third Law of Attraction, there is an equal or opposite reaction, to every action. Just as a relationship can bless us, it can also, curse us. No, I’m not speaking witchcraft here (or, maybe I am, idk), but I am speaking about the power, or influence that abusive people can have on any given person, including themselves. May I remind you of Samson and Delilah? Delilah………… Chiiiile, she was something else. To keep it short, Sis, was the set up girl! She seduced Samson right out of his strength, by charming him with her beauty and sexuality. Delilah never really had any plans on living happily ever after with Samson, because she was too focused on her own intentions, which were to kill, steal and destroy. In reality, it wasn’t the lost of Samson’s hair that became his weakness, it was Delilah………… the female NARCISSIST. It’s truly amazing how powerful, yet, destructive, CHARM can be.
She made him sleep on her knees. And she called a man and had him shave off the seven locks of his head. Then she began to torment him, and his strength left him. Judges 16:19
I pointed out that Delilah was a “female” narcissist, because narcissism does not discriminate when it comes to gender (male/female). However, narcissist effects the male population in greater numbers. Narcissist are extremely CHARMING…….well………not really, but they definitely pretend to be. If you have found yourself in a relationship with a narc, then you have realized that the charm fades quickly and the person that once seemed to be so in tune, quickly became out of tune, displaying a lack of emotion, empathy and concern for any person, place or thing, outside of themselves. You may have felt as if you were living in a Lifetime Movie thriller, due to the consistent gaslighting, manipulation, verbal, sexual, physical, financial and emotional torment. Oh, let’s not forget, the endless amount of infidelity and silent treatments. It may have felt as if you were in a relationship with Satan, himself.
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14 NIV
Despite the enemies attempt to destroy your life, YOU CAN FIND HEALING. Though the devil came ONLY to kill, to steal and to destroy YOU, God has plans to give you life. See, what the devil meant for harm, God will take that thing and turn it around for your good and HIS GLORY! I’m not sure how you ended up in such a relationship; maybe you ended up with the narcissist because of childhood trauma, or maybe because of deep rooted sin. You may have ended up in a relationship with a narcissist because they saw your giving heart and desire to care for others in a way that no one cared for them. Many narcissist experienced abuse and neglect as a child, which leads them into a dark and demonic life of vengeance. While you can’t change a narcissist, you can change YOU. There’s healing in Jesus Christ. There’s deliverance in Jesus Christ. There’s life in Jesus Christ.
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. Jeremiah 33:6
