The Family: Husband
Updated: Jan 20, 2023
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, but lose his FAMILY? We live in SUCH A TIME AS THIS, where fame, recognition, money, sex and material possession seems to trump the solitude and sanctity of MARRIAGE and FAMILY. Of course, money, sex and fame has always been the devil’s attempts to destroy God’s creations, just look back to what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah, it was destroyed by God, Himself, because of their love for sex, fame and money. However, today’s world seems to have truly lost sight of the things that means the most. We are living in times where gender roles and the definition of marriage, has been greatly altered by societal norms and lack of traditional expectations. Will the real HUSBANDS please stand up!?
We are in a desperate need of the solid foundation, structure, covering and nurturing that God has gifted to man, the gift of being a HUSBAND and FATHER, who leads his home with dignity, love and strength. Women are becoming frustrated with having to raise the children alone and men are becoming hopeless, having to carry his burdens all alone. There seems to not only be a great shift, but also, a great game of tug of war, where both man and woman yearns for love, validation, support and appreciation, but both are falling very short on the giving end, causing an even greater divide.
I’m almost certain that Joseph faced emotional, mental, spiritual and financial distress, as he walked into his calling of being Mary’s HUSBAND and Jesus’s father. However, Joseph did not waiver. JOSEPH UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. He did not walk out on Mary, leaving her to raise her children alone, as he eased his burdens with sex and alcohol. He did not beat Mary down when he became unsure, scared and depleted. Mary did not try to overrule Joseph, nor did she beat him down with her words. MARY UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. Joseph provided a safe and loving environment for Mary and in return, she provided a safe and loving environment for Joseph. As Joseph submitted to the Lord, Mary submitted to Joseph.
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7
No matter what the current societal norms are, we are in desperate need of HUSBANDS that can love the way that Joseph loved. Our homes are crying out for true leaders that honors and worships God over himself and loves his wife over the love of his comforts. HUSBANDS are called to be the head of the home. HUSBANDS are to be strong and gentle, loving and fierce, a leader and a follower, giving and accepting. The love and leadership of a HUSBAND creates a solid foundation that gives way for his wife to be all that God has called for her to be.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25
