Witchcraft
In today's world, where spirituality takes various forms, it's critical for Christians to understand and adhere to the principles outlined in the Bible, concerning WITCHCRAFT. For some reason, the topic of WITCHCRAFT stirs up much controversy, confusions and side eye’s, within many “Christian” circles. WITCHCRAFT is surely, demonic in all of its ways, therefore, it is NOT of God. If you have found yourself practicing WITCHCRAFT and confused on how these acts go AGAINST God’s Will, I would like to invite you to explore below, biblical perspectives on witchcraft and the reasons why it is considered a sin. Are you ready? Let’s go!
1. Defining Witchcraft:
To have a clear understanding, let us establish a definition of witchcraft from a biblical standpoint. Witchcraft involves the practice of seeking supernatural power and guidance through means other than God. It can encompass various activities like casting spells, divination, sorcery, and communing with spirits.
2. Biblical Prohibitions:
The Bible offers explicit warnings against witchcraft. In the Old Testament, Exodus 22:18 states, "You shall not permit a sorceress to live," underlining the severity of this sin. Deuteronomy 18:9-12 further emphasizes the importance of avoiding practices such as divination, sorcery, and communicating with the dead. In the New Testament, Galatians 5:19-21 lists witchcraft as one of the acts of the flesh, warning believers against such behavior.
3. Idolatry and Trusting in False Powers:
Witchcraft violates one of the fundamental commandments: having no other gods before the Lord (Exodus 20:3). Engaging in witchcraft demonstrates a lack of trust and reliance on God as the ultimate source of power and provision. It elevates self or other entities as the source of supernatural assistance, contradicting the Bible's teachings.
4. The Divine Authority of God:
Throughout Scripture, God's authority is repeatedly highlighted. Practicing witchcraft is a direct challenge to that authority, as it seeks supernatural power from sources other than God. Isaiah 47:12-13 warns of the consequences faced by those who dabble in these practices, emphasizing the futility of relying on anything apart from the Lord.
5. Honoring God through Obedience:
As Christians, our primary focus should be on seeking a deep and meaningful relationship with God. Engaging in witchcraft detracts from this goal and distracts us from living in alignment with His word. Instead, we should orient our lives around obedience to His commands and rely on His power and guidance for all aspects of life.
Now that you are more aware of the sin of practicing witchcraft, are now ready to examine your heart, mind and practice, letting go of what does not honor God? On another note, is there someone in your personal life that professes to be a follower of Christ, yet, practices WITCHCRAFT and you just don’t know how to discuss the topic? It is crucial to approach this topic with love, understanding, and respect, for those who may be involved in such practices. Remember, we ALL fall short and are in need of God’s Grace and mercy. As followers of Christ, our aim should always be to align our lives with His teachings, seeking His wisdom and authority in all things. Let us pray for discernment and a heart that always turns to God in times of need, rather than wandering into practices that go against His divine will.
